Before You Begin

Decisions, decisions. In order to make the selection that best fits your needs, 
you may want to consider some of the following product information:

Shapes and Sizes

Our products can be created as circular stones, square plaques, ovals, or in heart or flower shapes.

In order to accommodate different price ranges, we make a variety of circular, square or oval stone sizes. Unless specified smaller in your order, the largest dimension listed is normally our standard size.

Our standard circular stepping stone is 12-inches in diameter, but we also create stones that cover the following sizes: 10-inch, 8-inch, 6-inch and 4-inch (about the size of a hockey puck!)

Our upright plaques are available in 9 1/2 inch squares. Oblong-shaped pieces are available in our standard 13 x 9 ¼ size (address plaques only come in this size) or 11 x 9.

Rock Types

Our studio is filled with natural rock from, well…all over creation! Because the rocks vary in color and size, we hand-select each stone that we inlay. The two basic types are beach rocks and natural rocks.

Beach rocks are smooth with rounded edges from being tumbled in riverbeds or oceans. Their colors tend to be deeper and more muted. For those of you who have small children intent on walking barefoot over your stepping stones, beach rocks are an excellent choice.

Our natural rocks (see picture below) have many distinctive characteristics depending upon their birthplace. Natural rocks vary from bright and bursting with color, to pastels and earth tones. Many of our rocks have striations running through them, tend to have more angular lines, and are somewhat rough to the touch in comparison to the beach rocks. These make for stunning arrangements in upright plaques and stepping stones that will be used for garden accents.

Arrangements (Flat/3-D)

Most of our stones are two-dimensional, with rocks delicately placed on their “backs” into the concrete. This is done to prepare them for a future career as a true stepping stone, although many of them end up indoors on stands.

We also have several pre-set patterns in which natural rocks are placed headfirst into the concrete, creating a dramatic 3-D effect. These are done on all hanging address and wall plaques, as well as novelty items such as our 8-inch golf ball stones. The picture to the left is a closeup of a 3-D wall plaque.
